Skyview teacher wins award for lesson plan

A Tucson charter-school teacher was named the second-place winner of the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies lesson plan competition.

This is the sixth year the competition has been held in response to the need for creative and unique lesson plans related to the Middle East that adhere to high academic standards.

Entries were submitted from all across the country. Brenda Bonine of Skyview High School was awarded second place.

Bonine taught high school courses in Africa's Zimbabwe, where she lived with her family until 1999. She has taught history, government and geography at Skyview for 10 years.

Bonine's lesson will be published and posted on the University of Arizona''s Web site. It also will be burned onto CDs for distribution to teachers throughout the United States.
