West Phoenix High School student earns prestigious scholarship

 
 West Phoenix High School senior José Garcia is one of two students selected to represent Arizona in Washington D.C. this spring as part of the 49th annual United States Youth Senate Scholarship award program.

West Phoenix High school senior José Garcia was named a recipient of the 49th annual United States Senate Youth scholarship award. The highly competitive scholarship process consists of submitting an essay on government and leadership; a comprehensive public affairs, government and history examination and a personal interview.

Garcia represented West Phoenix High School and The Leona Group with class, dignity and pride.

After overcoming personal hardship, José came to recognize the importance of education. At West Phoenix High School, he discovered his interest in the mechanics of how public policy operates. Garcia consistently demonstrates interest and aptitude in government, history and politics.

While in our nation’s capital, he will be a guest of the United States Senate and have the distinct honor of meeting the
President of the United States, the senate co-chairs and other senate leaders, the Secretary of the Senate, Senate Parliamentarian and Senate Historian, a Justice of the Supreme Court, members of the House of Representatives, officials from the departments of state and defense and other executive agencies, a foreign ambassador to the U.S. and senior members of the media.
