English Language Acquisition Services (ELAS)

The English Language Acquisition Services (ELAS) department is designed to support and monitor the programs for English Language Learners at each of our sites. Through the use of school level facilitators and coordinators, who meet for professional development at bi-monthly meetings, our students receive Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) instruction using research-based methods.

This department serves as the center for K-12 English language development curriculum development, SEI instruction training and AZELLA testing. Through the use of English language arts and English language development classes, the students are exposed to grade appropriate state standards while acquiring fluency in English through reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. The ELAS department prides itself on serving as a resource, researching and keeping up-to-date on all state and federal legislation in order to better serve the ELL students attending schools within the Leona Group.
