Dr. Bill Coats established The Leona Group in Michigan in 1996 with the belief that all children, regardless of their ethnicity, economic status, or educational disadvantage, can learn and achieve. This belief is foundational to The Leona Group, permeates throughout the entire organization and culture, and is vibrant in each Leona-managed school. For this reason, Leona Group schools are located in primarily urban centers where there is the greatest need for educational choice and opportunity.

In the Midwest, Leona delivers a quality, tuition-free choice in public school education to more than 30 schools in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Each is built specifically to meet the needs of the community it serves. Family-centered programs include free tutoring, before and after school care, full-day kindergarten, breakfast and lunch programs and more. Many of our school programs offer a unique educational focus including college preparation, environmental studies, performing & creative arts, credit recovery programs, leadership, character education and business / technology.
