This year marked the 36th annual Albert H. Mallory Sr. Black Heroes Oratorical Essay Contest.
Five students from George Crockett Academy were selected as winners and were invited to present their essays at the Duffield Library on Saturday February 15th.
The winning essays were written by: Nikol Baker (7A), Joshua Baker (7B), Daytona Tate-Hancock (7A), Devon Neal-Meriwether (7B), and Mariah Robinson (7A).
The students were instructed to write essays on black individuals who influenced politics prior to 1970.
Congratulations to these students for honoring their heritage by participating in this long-standing Detroit Black History Month tradition.
