The academy’s unique program includes online courses powered by eDynamic Learning, hands-on career exploration through internship-style experiences with federal, state and local agencies, and the opportunity to earn college credits in the dual-enrollment program through a local community college.
"We had no idea it would go over as well as it did,” explained Braswell. So well, in fact, that the school will be featured in EdTech Digest, and staff members have been invited to participate in speaking engagements across the country to discuss the academy’s success in implementing the well-rounded program.
With an emphasis in public safety courses, “We knew we had to offer our students an opportunity to really investigate career paths in public safety and eDynamic Learning filled that gap for us beautifully. The eDynamic courses fulfill elective coursework and they also keep students on track for graduation.
Students take a large variety of the eDynamic online courses not just to enhance their knowledge in public safety, but to explore topics they may also be interested in like; fashion and interior design, sports entertainment and marketing, veterinary science and digital photography, just to name a few. The school also utilizes classes featuring visual, performing and applied arts and physical education courses to ensure students meet graduation requirements.
“We want to make sure the students have an opportunity to explore options outside of public safety,” said Braswell. “It allows students to test out courses before they enter college so they don’t change their mind two years into a program. It’s really saving them time and money in the long run.”
“It’s fun to get to observe students utilizing courses and actually enjoying what they are learning,” said DPSA educational assistant, Valerie Griglen.
